War Dead – David Gamble

NB, David’s name is incorrectly recorded on the CWGC web-site as Davis.

David was the son of William Gamble and Sarah Ann Gamble and he was born in 1898. On the 1901 and 1911 censuses he was living with his parents at 27 Back Parker Street in Derby, and he was their only child. The 1911 census shows that WIlliam and Sarah Ann hadn’t lost any children at a young age. At the time of the 1911 census, David was working as a houseboy for Dr. Wright.

David joined the Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding Regiment), fighting in the 2nd/6th Battalion, with service number 268625. David died on 3 May 1917 at the age of 19 at the Second Battle of Bullecourt and his life is commemorated at the Arras Memorial in France.
