Cyril was born in Stratford, then still in Essex, in 1878. At the 1911 census, Cyril was boarding at a house at 34 Biscay Road in Hammersmith, London. His occupation at the time was listed as a jobbing gardener.
Cyril joined the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry, serving in the 2nd/1st Bucks Battalion, service number 240096. Cyril died of his wounds on 22 August 1917 whilst fighting on the front line and his life is commemorated at the Tyne Cot Memorial.
