War Dead – Arnold Gamble

Arnold Gamble was born in Sheffield in 1895, the son of John Henry Gamble (born on 28 March 1863) and Ada Gamble (born on 5 April 1865).

At the time of the 1901 census, the family lived at 26 Boyce Street, Nether Hallam, Sheffield. The household included John Henry Gamble and Ada Gamble, along with Nellie (aged 8), Arnold (aged 6), Mabel (aged 4) and Amy (new-born).

The family moved over the next few years and at the 1911 census the family lived at 21 Helsby Street in Warrington, Lancashire. John Henry, Ada and Arnold (aged 16) lived with Mabel (aged 14), Amy (aged 10), Clifford (aged 7) and Harold (aged 5).

Arnold joined the 1st Battalion of the Welsh Guards with service number 3322. He sadly died on 14 February 1918, at the age of 23. At the time of his death, Arnold’s parents lived at 3 Stafford Road at Stockton Heath, Warrington and they still lived together at this property when the 1939 register was taken.
